It’s a common known fact that your credit plays an integral part in the mortgage approval process.
So it’s really no surprise that many future home buyers are concerned about how their credit report will impact their ability to buy a home.
If you have had credit problems in the past it is very important to fully disclose ALL the details so that our mortgage planning specialists can better direct our search for a lender who will look at prior credit problems.
It’s a good idea to prepare a written explanation as to the full details of any particular past credit problem, most lenders want to see this as an indicator of your willingness to “own up” for your past mistakes, and to show that you have learned your lesson and will not repeat any past indiscretions.
Our mortgage professionals realize that quite often there are legitimate reasons for past credit problems, such as unemployment, illness, or most commonly marital splits. If you have had a problem that has been corrected, and your payments have been on time for at least a year, your credit may be satisfactory.
The message here is that if you have credit problems in the past do not automatically give up.
